Leonard Segal Presented Three Sessions on the FMLA and Dealing With Problem Employees at Minnesota CLE’s 2018 Upper Midwest Employment Law Institute

The 2018 Upper Midwest Employment Law Institute, co-sponsored by Minnesota Continuing Legal Education, the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section, and the Twin Cities Human Resource Association, was held on May 21 & 22, 2018 at the St. Paul RiverCentre.  This annual conference continues to be one of the largest employment law conferences in the country!

As in years past, Leonard Segal presented several sessions at this year’s ELI.  Lenny’s sessions were:

  • FMLA Basics – This session was designed by Lenny for people who were new to the Family and Medical Leave Act or who needed a good refresher course, with numerous practical tips to comply with the FMLA.
  • Open Forum on the FMLA and Other Leaves – This session was far more advanced than Lenny’s FMLA Basics session.  During this open forum, Lenny and two other experienced employment law attorneys answered challenging questions posed by attendees concerning the FMLA and other leave laws.  As anyone who has had to handle these issues knows, tricky situations often arise and this was a golden opportunity for those in attendance to receive guidance from experienced employment law attorneys.  This was a fun session that yielded dozens of questions from attendees.  If we had the time, it could have gone on for much longer!
  • Open Forum on Dealing With Problem Employees – Most employees are terrific but sometimes businesses must address a problem employee.  During this session, attendees were able to ask the panel their toughest questions when dealing with problem employees.  The same panel that led the Open Forum on the FMLA and Other Leaves also led this session, which again could have continued well beyond the one hour time period.

The 2018 Upper Midwest Employment Law Institute was, as always, terrific!  Attendees learned a lot of information, received updates on the ever-changing world of employment law, and left the conference with great resource materials.  For further information about this year’s program, please click this link: 2018 Upper Midwest Employment Law Institute.

If you attended this year, we hope you had a great time and found the ELI to be a great experience!
